What is the Literacy Foundation?

The Literacy Foundation provides online services for individual and group consultation to parents and educators, as well as online tutoring services for school-age students, K to 8th grade, in the areas of reading and writing. Our consultation services include assessing the effectiveness of literacy instruction based on the science of reading, devising strategies to improve literacy instruction, providing training workshops for educators and parents, and recommending educational materials for literacy instruction. Tutoring services can include informal diagnostic assessments to identify the level of student readiness, which will guide areas of  instruction for prevention, instruction, and remediation.

The Literacy Foundation aims to assist stakeholders in education (parents, teachers, administrators, school districts, and private companies) who are interested in helping all students learn to read and write using the science of reading. Specifically, we specialize in providing consultation and tutoring based on the five pillars of reading (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and text comprehension) outlined by the National Reading Panel Report and The Simple View of Reading as explained by Tunmer and Gough. The Literacy Foundation will help stakeholders in education understand how to use these, and other, seminal works in mitigating reading and writing problems.
